Judo club head for chilly waters in name of charity.

THEY’RE in training to be masters of the mat.
Now big hearted kids from an Ayr judo club are preparing to put their bodies on the line.
The youngsters will charge into the water at Prestwick beach on Boxing Day as part of a charity spectacular.
And they’ll do it wearing their full judo gear.
It’s all part of this year’s Dip With A Nip, being held in aid of CLIC Sargent.
The event has become one of the biggest on the charity calendar and the 2009 version looks like being the best yet.
And leading the way will be the commando kids from the Tam’s Brig judo club.
Teacher Michele Thomson, an orange belt, revealed: “We wanted to do something for a great cause and the response from the kids has been amazing.
“Not all of them had heard of CLIC Sargent or what it is they do, so I had to explain the work they carry out.
“Once I did, the children rushed forward to put their names down for this and it actually left me with a lump in my throat.”
The judo kids will join hundreds of other hardy souls heading for the chilly waters on December 26.
The Boxing Day Dip has become a worldwide success and helps to raise thousands for CLIC Sargent every year.
And the judo club, one of Ayr’s oldest, is pledging to do all it can to make an impact at this year’s event.
Michele, 41, laughed: “The kids are so excited.
“They’ll be easy to spot running into the water in their full judo kits and they can’t wait for it.
“They’re already out and about trying to collect money and hopefully we can raise as much as possible.
“I did the Dip with my daughter last year and it was so much fun.
“Judo is all about relying on each other during training and I think the kids will be relying on each other when they run into that water.”
