Judo bet bags gold

VIENTIANE, Laos. – Nancy Quillotes willed her way through to a judo gold, delivering a pleasant surprise for Team Philippines in the 25th SEA Games here Tuesday.
Quillotes’ victory over Thailand’s Wanwisa Muenjit in the 45kg-and-under category came as the lone bright spot for the Filipinos at the Chano Anuovong Gymnasium Budo Centre and was sort of unexpected by a team largely looking only at the durable John Baylon to deliver the gilt.
Even Quillotes, who trained in Japan to try and improve on her two silver medals in as many previous SEAG stints, could not fully find the words to describe her feelings after beating an opponent she has become familiar with.
"Nagkakabasahan kami ng laro kasi familiar na kami sa isa’t-isa. Gusto ko talaga syang gantihan kasi siya kakatalo n’ya lang sa akin. Tinalo ko siya nung 2007 SEA Games, pero nabawian niya ako sa Asian Judo Championship (in Kuwait last May)," related Quillotes
"Mukhang sa Japan din siya nag-training, iisa kami ng galaw, eh," added the 29-year-old Leyte native.
