Medals for judo trio
1:57pm Thursday 22nd October 2009
CLACTON, Walton and Harwich Judo Clubs played host to top-class action at their annual international competition.
Clacton Judo Club members Jack Williams, Jack Blanes and Lewis and Laura Ward all picked up medals, which were presented by double Olympian Winston Gordon.
Williams really rose to the occasion in a tough category, taking control of more experienced opponents and using great technique to pull off a number of maximum scores on his way to a bronze.
Blanes had a mixed day.
Unlucky not to have beaten the eventual gold-medal winner, he showed his class in the fight that brought his bronze medal with a beautifully-timed and executed Tomonage throw for Ippon.
Ward continues to impress and looked unstoppable as he marched through the rounds.
However, he met his match in the final.
Despite fighting well, he had to settle for silver.
Laura Ward also added to her medal collection by claiming a bronze.
Elsewhere, Samuel Aldis put in a performance that would have given him a medal in most categories.
With clinical finishing, he managed to reach the semi-finals in his first competition for several years.
However, he was unfortunate not to go any further and just missed out in the repercharge. FONTE: Clactonan Gazette
