THE Tasmanian judo team has returned from the national titles in Canberra with outstanding results.
Held over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, more than 450 competitors battled for national recognition, with 17 Tasmanian athletes bringing home 13 medals.
Australian representatives Priscus Fogagnolo and Stephanie Grant both came away with wins in their weight divisions, taking bronze in their respective open classes.
Mollie Dabner performed well with a gold medal in the young women's under 57kg category and bronze in the senior competition, while Hobart's Alice Coppleman took out gold in the under-16 and bronze in the senior under 48kg events.
The team will now look ahead to the Victorian International Open later this year, while many gold medal winners will aim for national selection.
State coach Kerry Wakefield said even though only a small number of competitors were from the north of the state they still produced some excellent results.
"Erin Wakefield came away with a bronze medal which was fantastic," he said.
"Dane Davidson and Daniel Bernal also showed really good fights."
Mr Wakefield said judo was only just starting to gain in popularity in Launceston.
"We are really trying to promote the sport here," he said.
"With the opening of a new judo club at the university we hope to see an increase in numbers, especially from younger people."
